Why Indian stores pay more on Shopify

In most countries Shopify stores use Shopify Payments and pay no extra transaction fee. Shopify Payments isn’t available in India, so every Indian store connects a third-party gateway like Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree, and Shopify charges its own fee on top: 2% on Basic.

On a ₹1,000 prepaid order on Basic that means about ₹20 to Shopify, ₹20 to the gateway and ₹3.60 GST on the gateway fee: around ₹43.60, or 4.36%, before your monthly plan and any apps.

Each is a monthly subscription or a per-order charge. Checkout apps aimed at Indian D2C brands commonly start at a few thousand rupees a month.

How much does Shopify cost per month in India?

Shopify Basic is ₹1,994 a month on monthly billing, or ₹1,499 a month billed yearly. Grow is ₹7,447 (₹5,599 yearly) and Advanced ₹30,164 (₹22,680 yearly). Shopify Plus starts at ₹1,75,000 a month.

Does Shopify charge a transaction fee in India?

Yes, on online payments. Shopify Payments isn’t available in India, so stores use a third-party gateway such as Razorpay, and Shopify adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. The gateway charges its own fee too, typically about 2% + 18% GST.

Does Shopify charge on Cash on Delivery orders?

No. COD is a manual payment method and Shopify’s extra transaction fee doesn’t apply. Many Indian stores still pay for a COD or checkout app.

Is there a Shopify free trial in India?

Shopify shows a 3-day free trial, then ₹20 a month for the first 3 months on most plans. After that the full plan price applies.

Is Shopify worth it for a small Indian seller?

Shopify is powerful, but fixed monthly fees, the extra transaction fee and paid apps add up when you are small. A platform with a free plan and an all-in fee, like Trozly, usually costs less until you are doing several lakh a month.
